Dr. Jessica Nguyen was born and raised in Houston and developed aspirations in becoming an optometrist as early as her middle school years. Her mother had taken her to visit with multiple eye care providers due to a noticeable eye turn, which sparked Dr. Nguyen’s interest in the field of optometry. She initially started off in 2016 as an optometric assistant for Dr. Kevin Gee and her passion for optometry continued to grow while working and attending the University of Houston for her undergraduate studies. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods in 2018. She then received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2023.

During her optometric training at the University of Houston College of Optometry, Dr. Nguyen received multiple letters of clinical excellence as a student. She was given the opportunity to expand her proficiency in perioperative cataract surgery co-management at the University Eye Institute’s Ambulatory Surgery Center as a third year student. In her fourth year, she was selected to rotate through the Ocular Surface Institute & Dry Eye Center where she learned about the various modalities of dry eye management, including LipiFlow, low-level light therapy, intense pulsed light treatments, and specialty contact lenses.

She returned to Gee Eye Care to complete a clinical rotation with Dr. Gee, where she further extended her knowledge and treatment in anterior and posterior segment ocular disease, particularly in ocular surface disease. Her final rotation was at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic, a community clinic in Dallas, TX, where she served the underprivileged patient population and gained immense experience in management of corneal conditions through specialty contact lenses, glaucoma, and ocular complications from systemic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. As a result from her experiences, Dr. Nguyen has interests in dry eye management, specialty contact lenses. She is certified to prescribe MiSight and Euclid orthokeratology lenses for myopia management.

Apart from the clinical training, Dr. Nguyen was involved as a member of the American Optometric Student Association, Student Texas Optometric Association, and Student Optometric Practice Management Association. She also became a student fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Nguyen is a licensed therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist.

Outside of the office, Dr. Nguyen enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and three pets (two dogs and one cat). She is also a fitness enthusiast that enjoys activities such as indoor cycling, pilates, and powerlifting. As a native Houstonian, she loves to explore new restaurants and sushi omakase experiences.
