Lilyan is the smiling face and warm voice you will often times be greeted by on your first encounter at Gee Eye Care. A team member and administrator since the very beginning, she has helped train each of the other team members in her expertise; exceptional customer care, insurance verifications and office efficiency. A native of Mississippi, Lilyan received her business degree from the University of Mississippi. In her free time, she enjoys singing in the church choir and participating in various community projects. Her favorite food is seafood and she is a huge sports fan.
Vy was born in New Orleans and lived there until Hurricane Katrina hit. After the storm, she moved through a couple of cities in Texas. For college, she settled in Houston and attended the University of Houston where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. As an aspiring optometrist herself, during her undergraduate career she was very involved as a member of the Pre-Optometry Professional Society. In her free time Vy enjoys writing, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends. She is also a big adrenaline junkie and has a goal of going to all the theme parks throughout the world one day to experience every coaster there is!
Afshan was born and raised in Houston. She currently is studying at the University of Houston where she is majoring in Biology and Health with a minor in Kinesiology. Her plans are to graduate in the Spring of 2016. All throughout her college career she was involved in the Pre- Optometry Professional Society and has participated in over 50 vision screenings. She had her mind set to pursue a career in optometry ever since she wore her first pair of glasses when she was 8 years old. Gradually her entire family was wearing glasses and this made her even more determined that this was what she wanted to do. In her free time, she likes to hang out with friends and family, participate in dare-devil activities, read books and try new foods. Her biggest wish is to go on mission trips and help aid in visions tests and soon travel the world.
Jessica was born and raised in Houston. She graduated cum laude from the University of Houston with a major in human nutrition and foods and a minor in biology. During her time at the University of Houston, she served as treasurer for the Pre-Optometry Professional Society for two years. Her interest in optometry stemmed from her first visit with the optometrist in middle school as a result of having vision difficulties. The clarity in vision that she received from wearing corrective lenses created a sense of obligation to be aware and take better care of her eyes. In her spare time, she likes to venture out to coffee shops in the city, spend time with her friends and family, go to the gym and lift, travel, and play the guitar.
Thuria spent her childhood through early teenage years in Irvine, California. She moved to Houston the summer of 2008 before beginning her freshman year at Westside High School. After many encounters with the profession through extracurricular activities, shadowing, and active involvement in Health Occupation Students of America, Thuria knew she wanted to be an optometrist. She went on to be an officer and active member of several organizations throughout her time at the University of Houston and received her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with a double minor in Chemistry and Health in May of 2016. She enjoys painting, spending time outdoors, and trying out new restaurants with friends and family. Upon graduation from optometry school, Thuria hopes to use her knowledge to aid in preventative healthcare, advance ocular technology, and give back to both surrounding communities and third-world populations.
Maggie was born and raised in Beaumont, TX and moved to Houston in 2015. She is currently a senior at the University of Houston majoring in Honors Biomedical Sciences with minors in Psychology, Chemistry, and Medicine & Society. In college, she became involved in the Pre-Optometry Professional Society, and after volunteering at vision screenings, she became determined to serve her community as an optometrist. In her spare time from studying, Maggie enjoys reading, volunteering as a tutor for children, and exploring new restaurants with her family.
Tammy was born and raised in Houston. During her childhood, her family and relatives would always request her to tag along as their personal frame stylist. Eventually, Tammy began to find her own liking in collecting different frames to interchange with and grew an interest for optometry. As an undergrad, she was active with the Pre-Optometry Profession Society (POPS) and was part of her College department’s recruitment team. In a December 2017, she received her Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology with a minor in Biology. She currently has her mind set on attending Optometry school in 2019. In her leisure time, she enjoys binge watching shows, hitting the gym, spending time with friends and family, and fantasize about traveling the world. As a young adult who never explored what’s outside of Houston, she hopes to venture out and see what the world has to offer.
